We are aware there have been some concerns raised and speculation, particularly on social media regarding an incident that occurred on Tonge Moor Road, close to the Post Office, around 4pm on Thursday. This incident was a response to a report of a possible drink driver. Officers attended and identified a suspect who initially failed to comply with officers a female then also began to intervene and obstruct officers.
Further officers arrived shortly after and both the were detained.
The male was subsequently charged with Failing to Provide a Specimen for Analysis when requested (Road Traffic Act).
Driving a under the influence of drink or drugs is one of the "Fatal 4". Driving under the influence is the second biggest cause of casualties and people killed or seriously injured. The Fatal 4 offences, which are drink and drug driving, distraction, including the use of mobile phones, speeding and the use of seatbelts.
Each day officers within Bolton but especially our Roads Policing Unit (RPU) undertake proactive operations around the behaviours that contribute towards road traffic collisions. It is well-known the effects alcohol and how drugs such as cannabis and cocaine can have on driving capability.
